Amnesty International REPRESENTATIVE Usman Hamid at the International Seminar “Indonesia’s Role in Achieving Palestinian Independence” in Jakarta, some time ago, said that Israel had committed four serious crimes in Palestine, namely crimes of aggression, war crimes, crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity.

“Israel also commits crimes in international humanitarian law, these are crimes against the norms of the laws of war, such as attacking civilians, especially women, hospitals and so on. “Israel cannot just attack and cause random destruction which can include children and women, even hospitals and educational institutions, including the treatment of Palestinian prisoners in their hands,” stressed Usman.

Usman then said there were three important steps that Indonesia could take regarding the Palestinian issue.

“The first is optimizing Indonesia at the UN General Assembly, the second is optimizing Indonesia’s role at the UN Human Rights Council, the third is strengthening Indonesia’s position in ratifying very important conventions, namely the Rome Statute, the refugee convention and the anti-apartheid convention. “Without these three steps, it would be impossible for Indonesia to take very significant steps to protect our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” explained Usman.

Currently, he continued, the International Criminal Court is in the process of a fairly serious investigation into the role of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in various crimes, including illegal occupation, attacks on hospitals, attacks on civilians and so on.

“The investigation continues and this is what I think is absolutely necessary to bring Netanyahu to justice. “Until now he still denies it and says that the trial was nothing more than an attack on the Jewish people,” he stressed.

Previously, Director of the Foundation for Friendship and Civilization Studies (YPSP) Ahed Abu Al-Atta said that Hamas’ attacks on Israeli territory had stopped the ambition of the ‘Zionist State’ to realize a Greater Israel that covers the Palestinian territories to Jordan, from Syria to Egypt.

“The attack stopped Israel’s efforts to expand its occupation. Now, Palestine can be widely seen by the world community, what their position is as a sovereign and independent country, and that they are part of the countries in this world. “The Al Aqsa storm also showed the world community that Israel is weak and not as strong as we imagined,” he stressed.

The attack by 1,300 Palestinian fighters, he said, succeeded in destroying Israel’s defenses and showing its weakness in the eyes of the world.

“This also shows the world how patient, steadfast and steadfast the people of Gaza and Palestinian society in general are in facing attacks in the face of such a devastating and terrible genocide. “Until now they have remained consistent and strong in defending their country,” said Al-Atta.

Citizens of the world, especially Islamic countries, added Al-Atta, are very sympathetic and united in fighting for Palestinian independence. Not only Islamic countries, but European countries then joined together to push for Palestinian independence.

“It should be noted that the Israelis also feel that their position is threatened and feel that they will disappear from Palestine as a result of the patience and steadfastness of the Gaza community in facing the attacks they carried out,” he stressed. (Z-1)

**Interview with Usman Hamid, Amnesty International Representative**

**Editor:** Thank you⁢ for joining us today, Usman. You recently spoke at an international seminar in Jakarta regarding Israel’s⁤ actions ⁢in Palestine. Can you summarize the key points you raised about ⁣the four crimes committed by Israel?

**Usman ⁢Hamid:** Thank you for having me. In ⁣the seminar, I highlighted that Israel has committed four serious crimes in Palestine: crimes of ⁣aggression, war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity. These⁤ actions violate international humanitarian ⁤law, particularly norms concerning the protection of civilians⁤ during warfare.‌ This ⁤includes‌ targeting ⁢civilians such as ⁣women ⁣and children, as well as attacking critical infrastructure⁤ like hospitals and schools.

**Editor:** You mentioned the role⁢ Indonesia can play in this situation. Can you elaborate on the three key steps ⁢you proposed?

**Usman Hamid:** Absolutely. The first‌ step is to optimize⁢ Indonesia’s position at the UN General Assembly. ‌This forum is crucial ‍for‌ raising awareness and pushing for resolutions concerning⁤ Palestine. The second step is ⁢enhancing⁣ Indonesia’s‌ role at the UN Human Rights Council,‌ where we can spotlight human rights violations. Lastly, I emphasized the importance of Indonesia ratifying vital conventions, including the Rome Statute and conventions on refugees and apartheid. These legal frameworks ‍will empower Indonesia to take more significant actions in⁢ support‌ of Palestine.

**Editor:** With the International Criminal Court investigating Israeli Prime Minister⁢ Benjamin Netanyahu, what outcomes do you foresee?

**Usman Hamid:** The ⁢ongoing investigation is critical.⁣ If evidence is found substantiating the⁢ allegations of Netanyahu’s involvement‌ in⁢ crimes ‌such as ‍illegal occupation and attacks on civilians, it ⁤could lead to him ⁤facing justice. Right now, he continues to deny‌ these accusations, claiming they’re attacks on the Jewish people. This narrative complicates the pursuit of justice but does not⁢ negate the necessity of addressing the situation in Palestine.

**Editor:** Thank ⁣you, Usman,⁣ for sharing your⁢ insights on this pressing ⁢issue. Your ⁤perspectives on Indonesia’s potential role and the ongoing investigations are crucial for our audience to ⁣understand.

**Usman Hamid:** Thank you for having me; ⁤it’s vital we continue this conversation and⁤ advocate for⁢ the rights of the ⁢Palestinian people.
