Israel Bombs Beirut, Hasan Nasrallah Safe: Reports

Israel carried out airstrikes south of the Lebanese capital Beirut on Friday, which it said targeted Hezbollah’s headquarters.

Lebanon’s al-Manar TV says at least one person was killed and 50 injured in the attacks.

Sources close to Hezbollah have said that Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah is “okay” in the attack, AFP news agency reported.

Sources said on condition of anonymity that Syed Nasrullah is fine. Sources are not authorized to speak to the media.

A Hezbollah source told Reuters that Hashim Safiuddin, a senior Hezbollah official, was alive in the attack.

According to leading Israeli television networks, Hassan Nasrallah was the target of the attack.

Moments before the attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue the fight against the militant group.

According to the statement released by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Netanyahu has decided to return today, shortening his visit to America.

The sounds of Israeli attacks were heard throughout the city. The attacks left a cloud of smoke in the densely populated southern part of Beirut, Hezbollah’s main stronghold.

Lebanese media say that four buildings were destroyed in the attacks. American media claims that Israel targeted Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said the strike targeted Hezbollah’s “central headquarters” on the city’s southern outskirts.

The Israeli bombing came as Netanyahu finished addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York, in which he vowed to continue attacks against Hezbollah and fight Hamas ‘until victory’.

The United Nations expressed deep concern over Israeli attacks on Beirut’s ‘densely populated’ area.

“The United Nations views the attacks on Beirut with great concern,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at a briefing.

‘Anyone who sees images of smoke rising from a densely populated area will be disturbed. We are currently trying to get more information.’

According to the Reuters news agency, a Pentagon spokesman said that the United States had no advance warning about the Israeli attack in Beirut.
