Israel announces the killing of “the person responsible for transferring combat equipment” from Iran to Hezbollah

On Tuesday, the Israeli army announced the killing of a prominent Hezbollah leader, whom it said was “responsible for transferring combat means” from Iran and its agents to that Lebanese group.

A statement issued by the Israeli army explained that it killed “in an air strike on Beirut, Muhammad Jaafar Kassir, commander of Unit 4400, which is responsible for transporting combat means from Iran and its agents to Hezbollah in Lebanon.”

He added that Kassir was “one of the most prominent leaders of Hezbollah, and one of the influential parties in the Iran-Hezbollah-Syria axis, and he was close to the Iranian regime.”

The Israeli army said that Kassir “led and directed hundreds of operations to transfer strategic combat means to Hezbollah in Lebanon.”

Israel used its missile defense systems on Tuesday to repel a group of ballistic missiles launched by Iran in response to the Israeli campaign against the Hezbollah group, an ally of Tehran in Lebanon.

The statement pointed out that the dead leader had “supervised the development of Hezbollah’s precision missile project, and the development of the organization’s fire capabilities, which were intended to target the home front and other targets in Israel.”

The Israeli army added that Kassir, who served as commander of Unit 4400 for more than 15 years, was in recent years “responsible for the field of finance in Hezbollah.”

He continued: “He led economic initiatives with the aim of obtaining funding for the party’s activities, such as economic projects in Lebanon and Syria, and economic and business networks around the world.”

“He was responsible for transferring funds from Iran and Syria to Hezbollah in Lebanon worth hundreds of millions of dollars annually,” according to the Israeli statement.
