A tentative agreement has reportedly been reached between Israel and the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas on a five-day pause in fighting, thanks to US mediation.
Under the terms of a detailed six-page agreement, the parties reportedly agreed to free around fifty hostages, women and children detained in Gaza, in exchange for the suspension of fighting. The release, which would take place in small groups every 24 hours, would take place in the coming days, according to information from the American newspaper The Washington Post published on its website during the night from Saturday to Sunday, relying on anonymous sources close to the negotiations.
It was not immediately possible to determine how many of the 239 people believed to be in captivity in Gaza would be released under the deal. Aerial surveillance devices will monitor movements on the ground to control the pause. The truce and movements on the ground would be monitored from the air.
87 hostages
After the Washington Post, Israeli television also reported on Sunday morning that an agreement had been concluded between Hamas and Israel for a ceasefire once morest the release of 87 hostages held in Gaza, according to its information. Still according to the N12 channel, Hamas said it was ready to release 53 women, children and young people as well as 34 foreign hostages. In return, Israel would have accepted a five-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as well as the release of Palestinian prisoners, notably women and children.
Hamas would also ask to be able to import more fuel into the area. The channel cannot confirm that the agreement has already been validated, the problem being that it is difficult to have contact with the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Yehya al-Sinwar. He has not yet given the green light to the mediators who are in Qatar.
If this pause is confirmed, it would then be the first lasting interruption in the conflict in Gaza which began on October 7.
