Here are the most important points of the agreement:

  • According to an Israeli government decision, the agreement provides for a maximum ten-day break in fighting. According to the mediating Emirate of Qatar on Wednesday morning, the start should be announced within the next 24 hours. According to the Islamist Hamas, the break in fighting is scheduled to begin on Thursday at 10 a.m. local time (9 a.m. CET).
  • Up to 100 of the approximately 240 hostages are to be gradually released by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli media, the victims are minors and women. The Israeli news site Ynet also reported that under the agreement, Israel would be allowed to provide Hamas with the names of the 100 hostages to be released. Part of the deal should also be that abducted mothers and children are not separated from each other upon release.
  • In return, Israel should release up to 300 Palestinians from Israeli prisons. The prisoners are accused of, among other things, throwing firebombs, arson and knife attacks. According to Israeli media reports, there is no one among them who has been convicted of murder.
  • 50 Israeli hostages are to be handed over to the Israeli security authorities within four days in groups of at least ten people. According to Israeli media, there are 30 minors, eight mothers and twelve older women – all Israelis. In return, a total of 150 Palestinian prisoners will also be released in groups. For every ten hostages released, the weapons will be suspended for 24 hours. In a second step, up to 50 additional hostages will be exchanged for up to 150 additional prisoners in appropriate groups.
  • According to Qatar, “a larger number” of humanitarian goods will be brought into the Gaza Strip during the pause in fighting, and the import of fuel for humanitarian purposes will continue to be permitted. According to Hamas, the entire Gaza Strip, including the north, will be supplied with the goods.
  • According to Hamas, during the ceasefire, Israeli air traffic will be completely stopped in the south of the coastal strip every day and in the north for six hours.
