US PRESIDENT Joe Biden and Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the deployment of the US military to support Israel’s security in the face of threats in a phone call on Thursday (1/8). This came after Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, Iran, on Wednesday (31/7).
“The presidents discussed efforts to support Israel’s defense against a range of threats, including ballistic missiles and drones, as well as new U.S. defensive military deployments,” the White House said in a statement.
Biden reaffirmed his commitment to Israel’s security in the face of all threats from Iran, including Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthi groups.
To reassure Washington’s commitment to Israel’s defense, Biden stressed the importance of continued efforts to defuse broader tensions in the region.
US Vice President Kamala Harris, who earlier expressed serious concerns about the situation in the Gaza Strip to Netanyahu, also joined the call. (Ant/Z-2)
