A cardiac arrest took the Sonero Mayor’s son. The singer, interpreter of songs like ‘Muralla debronco’ or ‘El heredero’, was 67 years old.
Ismael Rivera Jr., Sonero Mayor’s son, died of cardiac arrest. He thus he reported to Salserísimo Peruthe musician Hannibal de Grace. “This would have happened at noon in a restaurant in Isla Verde,” she added. The fact was also confirmed by his cousin Moncho Rivera.
Maelo, with more than 35 years in music, earned the respect of the salsa community. At the end of the 70’s, he recorded hits with the Combo de Cortijo such as ‘Elena, Elena’ and ‘Gotas de poeta’.
Some time later came ‘Muralla debronco’, a song that was included on the album Human Fruit. Thanks to this production, Ismael connected more with the fans of Panama, Venezuela and Colombia.
In the case of Peru, Ismael visited Callao in 2010. He appeared at the Campolo Alcalde stadium in La Perla and shared honors with Cano Estremera, Junior González and Larry Harlow.
In recent weeks, the singer was promoting ‘Esa mulata es candela’, a song he recorded with the pianist Cheo Arce and which is part of an album that brings together several salsa stars in Puerto Rico. «For me it was a pleasure that he recorded on my album. He was a person with a very noble heart and a genius in the recording studio. May he rest in peace,” Cheo told Salserísimo Perú.
Ismael has not seen this latest project completed. But there is something of which we are all convinced: eternal sonero, your rumba will never end. Farewell, heir to the flavor!
