Islamic Ideological Council Objection to Supreme Court Decision in Mubarak Sani Case, Revision Appeal – Pakistan

The Islamic Ideological Council has expressed its displeasure on several clauses of the Supreme Court’s decision in the Mubarak Sani case and appealed to the Supreme Court to review the decision soon.

The 238th special meeting of the Islamic Ideological Council was held today, Tuesday, August 8, 2024, under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the Islamic Ideological Council, Dr. Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naimi.

In the statement issued after the meeting, it was said that the Council has expressed reservations on several clauses of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the Criminal Revision Petition No. 2/2024 (Mubarak Sani Case). In this regard, the Council will soon send a detailed report to the Supreme Court.

According to the statement, the council declared that there are many aspects in the said decision which the scholars and the Islamic Ideology Council do not consider correct according to Islamic rules. Therefore, the honorable judges of the Supreme Court should reconsider their decision issued on July 24, 2024 and remove the reservations.

The council declared that the entire nation is in anxiety over this decision. Instead of legal clarifications, this is a problem of faith and love of the Prophet (peace be upon him). All sections should try to resolve it through mutual understanding.

The statement said that the council hopes that the honorable Supreme Court will review this decision soon and the government, especially the prime minister, will play an effective role in this regard.

It should be noted that a two-member bench consisting of Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa and Justice Musarat Hilali had on February 6 ordered the release of Mubarak Ahmad Sani, an accused in the blasphemy case, who belongs to the Ahmadi community, on bail.

Against the court decision, a hate campaign is being conducted on social media against Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa for the past few days, while religious organizations had also announced a protest against the court decision.

Even Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan Naib Amir Zaheer-ul-Hasan Shah had announced a reward of Rs 1 crore on the head of the Chief Justice, who was later arrested.

It may be recalled that Mubarak Ahmed Thani was arrested in 2022 after a case was filed in which he was accused of being involved in distributing a distorted interpretation of the Quran.
