At a young age, ischemic strokes, when there is a failure in the circulatory system due to thromboembolism, occur more often among girls than among men. This was told to URA.RU by a neurologist at the NAKFF medical clinic Ivan Yemelyanov.
“Indeed, there is a difference in the predisposition to strokes among men and women at a young age. Women of fertile age (from the age of 15, approx. URA.RU) are more at risk of vascular accidents within the brain, usually of an ischemic nature. The main reasons for this feature are: hormonal disruptions, the consequences of menstrual irregularities, taking oral contraceptives, gestational diabetes (increased blood glucose levels), preeclampsia and arterial hypertension during pregnancy or following childbirth, ”explained Ivan Yemelyanov.
In general, according to the neurologist, strokes have become more common among young people. “The average age of stroke is gradually decreasing due to the increase in cases of acute cerebrovascular accidents among the able-bodied part of the population. That is, globally among children, the statistics of vascular accidents has not changed significantly for a long time. So why is there an upward trend in stroke among young people? This can mainly be attributed to the fact that risk factors such as physical inactivity, eating disorders, and stress disorders began to acquire pronounced significance at a younger age. A significant role is also played by hereditary predisposition, anomalies in the development of blood vessels that feed the brain. In the near future, it is worth observing how much the statistics will change taking into account the transferred coronavirus infection, ”added Yemelyanov.
Earlier, a pulmonologist, head of the Center for Prevention and Control of Tobacco Consumption of the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Russia, Candidate of Medical Sciences Marine Gambaryan noted that Smoking e-cigarettes can lead to to the development of cardiovascular diseases, atypical pneumonia and the appearance of tumors. This is due to the high content of synthetic nicotine and flavors in them.
