ISCED-Uíge professor detained for sexual harassment and corruption – Jornal OPaís

A professor who teaches the subject of Organic Chemistry, at the Instituto Superior de Ciências de Educação (ISCED), in the province of Uíge, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Service for allegedly harassing female students and charging students money in exchange for better grades in the your discipline

Indicted for crimes of sexual harassment and passive corruption, the 49-year-old professor has been teaching the subject of Organic Chemistry for more than ten years at the Higher Institute of Educational Sciences (ISCED), in the province of Uíge. The professor in question is accused by students of creating obstacles in his discipline, which many consider difficult to obtain positive results, so he created a staff that tried to enlist, both men and women, those who were interested in being approved for his chair.

The arrest of the aforementioned, according to SIC-Uíge spokesperson, Zacarias Fernando, took place in flagrante delicto, in one of the inns in the city of Uíge, following a complaint from one of his victims, in this case, his student, who the professor will have invited to the place in order to implement his intentions.

“The accused, abusing the authority resulting from a relationship of dominance or the subject he teaches, sought to force students at that educational institution to perform sexual acts or pay monetary amounts in the order of 20 thousand kwanzas [para], on the other hand, allow you to pass the discipline”, he maintained. The 22-year-old student is not the only victim, as following being reported, another 23-year-old student confirmed the accusations once morest the teacher, even claiming that this behavior (of harassing students) has been recurrent, with almost the majority of the class.

It is important to highlight that, last year, in August, the same institution saw its director being accused of corruption, abuse of power and sexual harassment. The person responsible was heard at the time, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office decided to return his freedom under the terms of his residence identity. Zacarias Fernando confirmed that the director is currently awaiting answers to the case, in freedom, under a residence permit. As there are several witnesses listed in the case, who are being heard, perhaps this is the reason why the trial has not yet been processed.
