If you have a very old smartphone, it may soon no longer be able to connect to the Internet in the near future…
A page is turning in the history of Proximus with the closure of its 3G network. The operator announced to its customers the imminent closure of its 3G network. Complete disconnection is planned for the end of 2024.
The operator’s customers received an SMS this week informing them of the imminent closure of the 3G network. “At the end of 2024, Proximus will end its 3G network. If your device does not support 4G, we advise you to replace it with a device compatible with 4G” we can read.
Very few of the operator’s customers are affected since the majority of phones produced over the last 7 years are compatible with 4G and 5G networks. The operator does not give its customers a choice anyway since 3G will disappear completely at the end of the year. Thousands of smartphones will then no longer be able to be used in Belgium.
To check if your device is compatible with 4G and 5G networks, nothing might be simpler. On iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular Data – Options > Voice & Data. If the 5G/4G/LTE option appears here, your mobile device is 4G and 5G compatible. On Android, go to Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network mode. Here you can see if your mobile device allows you to select 5G/4G/LTE mode. If 5G/LTE/3G/2G mode appears, your smartphone is 4G and 5G compatible.
If this is not the case, you will unfortunately have to go to checkout to get a new device.
