“I just came back from a dealership Mazda and I was surprised to find that the MX-30 is available immediately, with no waiting time. I find it really beautiful. Is this a good buy? » — Guylaine
Answer
Hello Guylaine,
Indeed, being able to get your hands on a new electric vehicle immediately is interesting. We also understand that you like the look of the Mazda MX-30. Its compact size, the quality of its construction and its inverted doors certainly make it a very interesting model. Let’s take a tour of the Mazda MX-30 together to help you understand your shopping.

Understand your needs
There’s a reason this vehicle is available in dealerships: low demand. Indeed, if consumers are currently snapping up other electric models like the Hyundai IONIQ 5/IONIQ 6, Kia EV6, Chevrolet Bolt EV or, even, Tesla Model 3, it is because they are coveted by consumers in because of their quality/price ratio. In the case of electric vehicles, it is often the range obtained for the price paid that makes a model attractive.
This is the biggest flaw of the MX-30: according to evaluations by Natural Resources Canada, its range is only 161 kilometers. That’s very little, especially considering its starting price of $40,767 before applicable rebates. This price is almost identical to that of a Chevrolet Bolt EV ($41,569) whose advertised range is 417 kilometers.

Then there is the charging power of 50 kilowatts in a compatible fast terminal, which is exceeded compared to what some competing models offer. For reference, an electric Hyundai Kona can fuel at 100 kilowatts of power, while an IONIQ 5 can reach 240 kilowatts.
It is therefore very important to understand your needs before purchasing a Mazda MX-30. Remember that it will give you a range of 161 kilometers, in the best possible weather conditions and in summer. In winter, expect a loss of autonomy which can be between 30 and 50%. So make sure that you will only be doing short trips behind the wheel of this vehicle, otherwise you might regret the purchase. Additionally, due to its outdated technology, the MX-30 will age poorly, which will affect its resale value. This is another thing to consider before buying it.

I end by telling you that, even if it is interesting to be able to leave the dealership quickly with a new electric vehicle, I would suggest that you first try other comparable models on the market, such as the Hyundai Kona Electric or the Kia Niro EV. Of course, it is true that these models will be a little more expensive to purchase, and that waiting times will be longer. The wait will be worth it, however, because you will have in your hands an electric vehicle that is much better suited to our weather conditions.
