Horner rules out RBR will dominate F1 for years like Mercedes

Red Bull Racing principal Christian Horner has claimed his team will not be able to dominate the Formula 1 championship for another seven seasons, as did Mercedes AMG before it.

So far this season, the Red Bull team has won all ten races. Its extremely good RB19 car has almost ensured that the driver’s standings leader Max Verstappen will defend the world championship title. It’s at your fingertips.

The huge competitive advantage has allowed Red Bull to focus on the development of the car for next year without having to introduce any major upgrades to the existing car, which will allow the rivals to start closing the gap on them.

But regardless of Red Bull’s absence from the inter-team development battle for the 2023 season, Horner believes there are signs that rivals are closing in on them, which will continue into 2026 if the rules remain unchanged.

So he ruled out that Red Bull might continue to dominate the Formula 1 championship like Mercedes did from 2014 to 2020, especially when they were also penalized for breaching budget cap rules and were the team allowed the least amount of time to develop their car. Down.

Speaking to the media following Verstappen won the British GP, Horner said: “One of the things we’ve learned from the sport is that everything is going to converge, and you can already see that trend and the most important thing that makes it happen. It’s stability.”

“The stability of the rules will reduce the competitiveness gap between the teams, and you can see that happening now, so another seven-year dynasty is not going to happen.”

“The powertrain is pretty much the same now, and the chassis is developed much faster than the engine. We’ve been able to see that a lot of things have converged since the start of the season.”

Horner said it was inevitable that teams would start to emulate Red Bull’s wildly successful car designs, and McLaren, whose success at the British GP with its overhauled MCL60 car, was the best proof of that.

He added: “I saw their car before the start and it was a very similar concept to ours. This is the first time we’ve actually seen it this year and you can see that they borrowed a very similar concept and they chose It’s flattering to be on the same line as us, isn’t it?”

“That kind of thing can’t be avoided, why not? When you want to have a car that has performed as well as we have, it makes perfect sense to do it by emulating, and some teams have chosen to do that.”

“They’ve been very strong on this track, but it will be very interesting to see how competitive they are going to be in the next races.”
