Here is an overview of Sergio Perez’s five Grand Prix victories so far:
Sachir 2020
Baku 2021
Monaco 2022
singapore 2022
Saudi Arabian 2023
What do you notice? Exactly, he celebrated four of the five victories on a street circuit! There are also numerous other podium finishes on street circuits.
Good for him: The next race in Melbourne will be held on public roads once more, and last year he was second on the podium there.
And then there will be driving in Baku, where the Mexican has even been on the podium four times…
Stella: Red Bull doesn’t have to apologize for dominance
So back to our big topic this morning. McLaren team boss Andrea Stella doesn’t think it’s Red Bull’s fault if the 2023 season is dull at the top.
There is “no excuse” for the other teams not to do a good job like the Bulls. “It’s more regarding the other teams having to improve,” he said, taking McLaren to task.
“Ultimately, it’s a sport where you win races if you’re faster,” he shrugs and clarifies with regard to Red Bull: “They deserve their success. It’s up to us to do a better job and them to challenge”.
Ocon holds Alpine accountable
The times when Alpine (or Renault) might fight for the world championship are long gone. In Saudi Arabia, they were only fifth once more at the weekend behind Red Bull, Aston Martin, Mercedes and Ferrari.
“We cannot be satisfied with where we are at the moment,” clarifies Esteban Ocon and emphasizes: “There are some teams that have improved massively compared to the others.” What is meant is primarily Aston Martin.
“It shows that this is possible,” said Ocon, who emphasized that his attitude also reflected the “atmosphere” in the team. “We can’t be happy with where we ended up today,” he said following P8 in Saudi Arabia.
Let’s see how things go in Melbourne in a week and a half.
Comparable examples…
… we have once worked up in this photo series. There you will find all the teams that have won the Constructors’ Championship at least three times in a row. Red Bull might do that as early as 2024.
But: In order to knock Mercedes off the throne, Red Bull would have to win another eight world titles in a row from now until 2030(!). And you might only catch up yourself in 2029.
Not impossible, but I wouldn’t necessarily bet on it…
