– Why the “big wave” does not sweep over hospitals
Coronavirus contaminations continue at high speed, but the number of hospitalizations and deaths remains low compared to the previous winter. A spectacular decoupling.
The Omicron variant continues its winter offensive, with an unprecedented wave of contamination in Switzerland. Vaccinated or not, everyone seems to pass. Nearly 20,000 people are infected on average every day since two weeks. Fortunately, with Omicron, the hospitalization curve ne follows more that of contaminations the same way as last winter.
As can be seen in the graph below, today there are three times more cases detected every day compared to November 2020; but at the same time, the number of people hospitalized and sick in intensive care is half as high as at the peak of the second wave (100%). As for the number of daily deaths, it is even lower.
