Recently, a group of social media users in Morocco have been circulating data that predicts that the Kingdom is on the verge of a tropical storm that could end the drought crisis once and for all in the coming days.

The General Directorate of Meteorology has entered into what has been circulated in this regard, denying the occurrence of unusual disturbances in the weather conditions in the Kingdom.

In this context, Al-Hussein Youabad, Head of the Communications Department at the Directorate of Meteorology, affiliated with the Ministry of Equipment and Water, confirmed that the weather conditions in the Kingdom “remain normal, except for some strong thunderstorms, for which a general warning bulletin was issued this morning, regarding the conditions of Wednesday and tomorrow, Thursday.”

Youabad explained that this period of the year witnesses transitions and instability in the weather conditions between August and September, based on the normal seasonal transition between summer and fall, stressing that “the monitoring of Moroccan meteorology has detected the movement of tropical masses northward during the months of August and September.”

The same speaker noted that these changes lead to rainfall and sometimes torrential thunderstorms and conditions, as was the case at the end of last week in the Middle Atlas regions and regions of the southeast.

The same official stated that the unstable weather in the Kingdom was caused by a low pressure system coming from the Spanish atmosphere, which may bring some light rain in the northwest and Atlantic coasts of the Kingdom, in the middle of this week.

The General Directorate of Meteorology reported that strong thunderstorms accompanied by hail and gusts of wind will affect a number of regions of the Kingdom today, Wednesday.

The Directorate explained, in an orange alert level warning bulletin, that these thunderstorms (from 20 to 35 mm) are expected today from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the prefectures and provinces of Boulemane, Taza, Ifrane, Khenifra, Midelt, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Driouch, Jerada, and Taourirt.
