Is it normal to feel dizzy after completing a physical exercise session?

The excess of momentum when you are doing an exercise session in the gym or anywhere else can make you feel very good, since you see that each time you manage to give more of yourself and reach points that you might not before. However, the opposite can also happen: you end up making you dizzy. It can even be normal for you to finish training and your head is spinning due to the overexertion accomplished. Reaching the limit can mean that you end up wanting to vomit or even on the verge of consciousness.

But beyond excessive exercise, there are also other reasons that can cause you to end up with this uncomfortable feeling. For example, the dehydration is another key factor. A person is considered dehydrated when he loses more water than he takes in. Think that your body sweats when doing sports, so you need to replenish and increase water levels so that your body stays hydrated.

When you exercise, your breathing rate increases because your body needs more oxygen To exercise. That is why the heart pumps faster: only in this way is it possible to oxygenate all the cells. If your brain notices a lack of oxygen because you’re not breathing often or deeply enough, then you may also feel dizzy because of that.

Another reason is the level of blood sugar. If the amount of glucose circulating in the blood is low, then hypoglycemia occurs. Glucose is the main source of energy for our cells, it is like gasoline for the car: if it is not added, the car will stop. The same happens with the body, since if there is not enough glucose in the blood, the body will not have energy to exercise. One way to avoid it is with isotonic drinks, since glucose is included in its composition.

You also have to take into account the blood pressure level, concept that refers to the force with which the blood circulates through the arteries and hits their walls. There are several symptoms that can alert you that your blood pressure is too low, such as lack of concentration, nausea, blurred vision… There are several ways to raise it quickly to reduce discomfort: drink water, elevate your legs or have a coffee, among others.

Lastly, keep in mind the type of exercise What are you doing. Aerobic exercises, for example, are usually the ones that require the most energy and oxygen. This group includes, for example, the treadmill, the elliptical machine, the stationary bike, the stair… Exercising at a high intensity on these machines can cause you to end up dizzy easily.

Therefore, there are several reasons that can cause you to feel dizzy following finishing physical exercise. If that happens, the most effective thing is to sit down for a couple of minutes, take a deep breath and lower your head to your knees so that the blood reaches the brain correctly. It is also convenient that you take advantage of this pause to hydrate yourself, either with water or with an isotonic drink. After a few minutes, you will return to normal and the dizziness will disappear.
