Office worker A feels unusually cold and becomes a ‘homemaker’ who prefers to spend time alone at home rather than going out in winter. However, a few days ago, Mr. A, who had never gone out or met other people, showed symptoms of a cold, such as sneezing and runny nose, of unknown cause.

He received a prescription for cold medicine from a nearby pharmacy, but his symptoms got worse and he went to a nearby hospital and was eventually diagnosed with allergic rhinitis.

The cold winter is the season when indoor living is the main season with phrases such as ‘It’s dangerous outside the blanket’ and ‘It’s dangerous outside the house’. Moreover, in the followingmath of COVID-19, the number of ‘homemakers’ has increased even more. However, it is not always safe to live inside the house because it seems dangerous outside the house.

In fact, if you look at the status of rhinitis patients in 2020 according to the National Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service’s Statistics of Diseases of Interest, 1,96,7023 in January, the coldest of a total of 8,215,615, was the highest figure, 23.9% of the total.

If you close the door to avoid cold wind and use a heating appliance for a long time, if you do not ventilate properly, you will live in dry and turbid air. In this case, exposure to allergens such as mold or mites may cause allergic rhinitis symptoms or worsen symptoms in those who have previously suffered.

Allergic rhinitis is characterized by a clear runny nose, sneezing, and nasal congestion.

In winter, allergic rhinitis as well as skin diseases are easy to occur. Due to the sudden temperature difference between indoor and outdoor, the balance of oil and moisture in the skin is broken, which can cause various skin troubles or skin aging such as wrinkles and loss of elasticity.

Hwang Hye-rim, head of the general health checkup center at Daedong Hospital, advised healthy indoor habits for winter because there are diseases that are worrying due to bad lifestyle habits, such as allergic rhinitis.

Manager Hwang Hye-rim said, “The sensible temperature should be increased by reducing the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures by maintaining the indoor temperature at 18 to 20 degrees. good,” he emphasized.

Also, “As it is the dry season, it is good to drink water whenever you remember so as not to lose moisture and to move your body through light stretching and exercise.” You have to make sure it doesn’t dry out.”

“If you don’t drink enough water, your body will dry out too, so calcium, phosphoric acid, uric acid, oxalate, etc. in the urine cannot go out with the urine, and they stay in the kidneys, which can cause stones to form,” he said. “If you do this, you may experience problems with urination, such as frequent urination, residual urination, and urgency, or urinary tract infections,” he said.

Manager Hwang said, “To prevent burns, when using heating products, be careful not to directly touch the body and use it for a set time. There is a risk of burns, so if you are diabetic or taking sleeping pills, you need to be more careful.”

Finally, he said, “It is good to form a nutritious diet through foods rich in vitamins and minerals, and to strengthen immunity by refraining from caffeine or alcohol.”
