semiconductor engineerMr. Tom Wassicktook an infrared look inside the Radeon RX 7900 XT die and found the same type of 3D V-Cache connection point used in the Zen 4 architecture. Wassick did not say whether these TSV junctions are specifically used for caching purposes. However, I haven’t heard of AMD’s plans to use such junction points in any non-cache 3D package so far. From this, it seems that it is prepared to improve game performance or calculation performance. 3D V-Cache has been used in Ryzen and EPYC CPUs with great success. How 3D V-Cache works on GPUs is unknown, but in theory it should be able to handle cache-sensitive workloads faster. If AMD is considering adding 3D V-Cache to their GPUs, that would be pretty cool. It may be the next step to improve game performance. |
