During the game between Marchtrenk and Putzleinsdorf (1:0) in the Landesliga Ost, the situation was clear for referee Almir Barucic: Marchtrenk captain Patrick Hamader, who had previously put his team in the lead (72nd), stopped in the 83rd minute. Minute a guest kicker once morest the rules. The result: Referee Barucic saw a goal being clearly prevented – and showed Hamader the red card. A wrong decision, as it turned out later: “I misperceived the situation. Other Marchtrenk players might have intervened. It was precisely during this action that the headset connection to my assistants broke, which is why I didn’t correct the decision. ” The exclusion remained, Marchtrenk brought the victory despite being outnumbered over time. The special feature: After the game, the game manager was even pointed out by Putzleinsdorf sports director Alexander Mager that he had made a clear wrong decision. “He misjudged the situation, I wanted to be honest with him. I think it’s strong when a referee has the size and can admit a mistake.” Barucic also noted his wrong decision in the official referee’s report – will Hamader avoid a suspension despite the red card?
Precedent in Upper Austria
It would set a precedent in the Upper Austrian lower house – but it has happened in this form in Austria before: in 2015, Salzburg’s Martin Hinteregger was excluded for an alleged goal robbery. However, the TV pictures contradicted the referee’s decision, which is why he admitted the mistake in his report. It was therefore not only a question of a controversial scene, but undoubtedly an obvious error, which is why the criminal senate refrained from the automatic game suspension. Barucic is now hoping for the same for Hamader: “I made a mistake and I apologize for it.”
