The American magazine Newsweek, through the intermediary of Igor Sushko, the director of the American research group “Wind of Change”, managed to get their hands on emails exchanged between an agent of the FSB (Federal Security Service of the Federation of Russia), on condition of anonymity, and exiled activist Vladimir Osechkin. In these exchanges, we note that the situation is very tense between the closest collaborators of President Vladimir Putin, since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
In fact, the FSB agent explicitly quotes Yevgeny Prigozhin, the owner of the Russian mercenary army Wagner, and Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of the Russian republic of Chechnya. The two men once once more strongly criticized the Kremlin leader and the war he is currently waging. “There is no way to ‘change everything’ in Russia so that the country as a whole works and does not fall into the abyss of terror”says the FSB agent in his emails.
“Chaos, Civil War and Collapse”
According to the latter, there is a good chance that tensions will emerge and that several Russian regions will resort to violence to express their dissatisfaction, particularly with regard to the distribution of the country’s resources. “There might also be a struggle between different powers for control of certain regions”explains the agent before continuing. “Believe me, it’s far more terrifying. I claim, and this is by no means the solitary personal opinion of an ordinary (FSB) employee: we have turned the country upside down. Chaos, civil war, collapse – yes, everything is ahead of us. It is inevitable. Too many Russians have passed the point of no return.“
Russian experts express concern over the turn of the war in Ukraine
In one of his emails, the FSB agent even informs Vladimir Osechkin that the leader of the Wagner group would prepare his troops for “domestic terrorism missions” amid a wave of protests in certain regions. These riots are due to the official report of the Russian army, announcing that 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or seriously injured in recent months. “Our reports show that public discontent is growing significantly and we will not be able to resolve this legally.”
Finally, the security guard explained that he feared that Yevgeny Prigozhin and Ramzan Kadyrov might carry out a series of provocations with the aim of undermining the authority of the FSB. “If everything goes according to Prigozhin’s scenario, we will lose both control and the country”he concludes.
