DALLAS (AP) — Kyrie Irving scored 44 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 32 in his fifth game as a starter and the Dallas Mavericks, playing without Luka Doncic and two other stars, beat the Knicks 128-124 on Thursday. NY.
After Irving scored 20 points in the third quarter, the Mavericks led 115-96 with 7:19 left. The Knicks got within 121-120 with 1:08 remaining on a 3-pointer by Donte DiVicenzo.
Josh Green hit a three-pointer with 25 seconds left for the last of his 18 points following three offensive rebounds as Dallas took a 124-120 lead. Irving and Hardaway combined to make four free throws in the final 11.1 seconds, sealing the victory.
Dallas native Julius Randle led the Knicks with 32 points and Jalen Brunson scored 30. DiVincenzo had 19, but the Knicks lost for the first time in six games since acquiring OG Anunoby from Toronto on Dec. 30.
Irving also led the Mavericks with eight assists.
Anunoby scored 10 points, eight in the fourth quarter. Randle’s 67th career 30-point game allowed him to move past Willis Reed for fifth place in club history.
Doncic was absent with an ankle injury. The Mavericks were also without center Dereck Lively II and guard Dante Exum.
