Ironman Hawaii: Despite the sauna: The heat pulls the plug – Leonberg

Happiness on the home stretch

The indescribable feeling of happiness then on the home stretch. Gerhard Weiland: “After what felt like an eternity of five hours of marathon, it was finally time, only two kilometers more on the Palani Road into the city and then on the Alii Drive, enjoying the finish line and hearing the famous words: You are an Ironman. Special thanks to my wife Silke and my friend and trainer David, who supported me throughout the longest day in the blistering heat.”

Melanie Altenbeck-Zorn and Gerhard Weiland have almost forgotten the hardships. Far away from their home in Leonberg, both of them are still planning a few days of vacation – one on the neighboring island of Maui, the other, as he says, “on the most beautiful of all islands in the Pacific.”
