Ironically, the makers of the most complex economic MMOs are developing a shooter

Studio CCP Games usually brings you with the complex space MMORPG EVE Online in connection. But the universe of this classic is to be expanded in the future – namely by a shooter. We at MeinMMO summarize.

what is the situation On May 6th, the EVE Fanfest took place in Iceland for the first time in 4 years. At this event, the developers behind the cult MMO, CCP Games, not only showed a lot of new content for the world of EVE, but also new plans to expand the universe.

In addition to a mobile game, a tactical multiplayer shooter in a high sci-fi setting is also in development. Produced by the studio release in London, it initially caused confusion when it was announced.

With Projekt NOVA, CCP have already announced a shooter that even had a playable version, the The project was then discontinued in 2020. The plan to make a shooter doesn’t seem to have been written off, only the entire concept behind it should be changed.

What do we know regarding the shooter? Unfortunately not much so far, because the project does not even have a name yet. Aside from being developed in London, here’s what we know:

  • It will be a tactical multiplayer shooter, also set in New Eden. The world that is also home to EVE Online.
  • The focus of the game should be on an atmospheric environment and would like to deliver innovative gameplay elements.
  • At Fanfest, CCP wants to continue speaking with the community to hear how fans might envision a shooter in New Eden.
  • There is currently no more detailed information or even a date when we will receive an official announcement.

The game without a name is currently still in pre-production, i.e. in the development phase in which there is not really any active development. Rather, you collect current ideas and create a more precise concept for the shooter.

According to the CCP, this is a response to a great desire from fans to be able to play an FPS game in New Eden.

Shooter and EVE – The fourth attempt

There were already shooters in New Eden: The unannounced no-name shooter from London isn’t CCP’s first attempt at launching a shooter. Because in addition to the discontinued project NOVA, which was discontinued before a release in 2020, there were two other attempts.

In 2013 CCP launched the first shooter, Dust 514. It should also bring influences from EVE Online, but work independently. The title was released Free2Play for the PS3, but was discontinued just three years later, in 2016. Within this period, namely at the EVE Fanfest 2014, the developers announced another shooter with Project Legion, which also disappeared from the scene.

After Project NOVA 2020 was finally discontinued, the developers already announced that they were working on a new shooter with the basic structure. Whether this is the still unnamed game is not clear. However, CCP has confirmed to us that the basic idea of an FPS has been retained by NOVA, but no assets or graphics will be used for the new project.

What is the community saying? Nevertheless, the community is open to the new project. Since it’s still very early in development, many fans have hopes that the new shooter will finally be what they’re hoping for in an EVE FPS. These voices are especially loud at Fanfest when you talk to the local people.

On reddit, however, there are also negative voices among the fans. Many don’t understand why CCP decides to start a new project instead of investing in EVE Online. Some even suspect that the EVE’s first price increase in 18 yearsdirectly or indirectly associated with the Shooter.

Still others loved Dust 514 and wish the shooter would come back in a better version. So far, both we and the fans can only wait.

What do you think of the announcement? Have you already spent time in EVE Online yourself and do you like the world and New Eden? Would you like to play a shooter in this setting, or are other titles like Halo Infinite enough for you?

Feel free to write it to us in the comments here at MeinMMO, we look forward to hearing your opinion.
