Amazon’s influence in the IoT space may reach new heights in the future.A few days ago, it officially announced that it will spend 1.7 billion US dollarsacquisitionWell-known sweeping robot company iRobot, while the deal still requires approval from iRobot shareholders and regulators, Amazon has confirmed that Colin Angle will maintain his current role as iRobot CEO. For the development direction of iRobot following the merger, Amazon has not announced specific plans for the time being. Dave Limp, the company’s senior vice president of installations, said his focus is on the iRobot’s ability to “reinvent the way we clean,” and he expects the latter to continue to innovate. At the same time, he also believes that Amazon and iRobot can share the “passion” of innovation in household products, and believes that the two parties will become the perfect partner.

Since iRobot was founded in 1990 by a group of MIT scientists, the brand has operated independently for 32 years. Their initial main product was a military robot, but following building the first Roomba robot vacuum in 2002, their focus shifted to consumer products. iRobot even sold its military equipment business outright in 2016 as the robot vacuuming business became more and more successful. However, in recent years, as competitors such as Neato and Stone have become more and more powerful, iRobot’s influence in the market is not as strong as it used to be. Today, under the negative influence of inflation and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, their performance is also getting worse. Joining Amazon is actually a good destination.
