CHRONICLE. Almost ten years have passed since a judge freed Lindsay Lohan from her suspended prison sentence.

Now everything looks much brighter. Plus, an Ireland romance starring Lohan is premiering just in time for St. Patrick’s Day this weekend.

Lindsay Lohan had a theatrical success along with Jamie Lee Curtis in the comedy “Freaky Friday” in 2003. After that began a long Calvary walk for Lohan, where she spent the next ten years dealing with crisis following crisis.

The film career never really wanted to take off. Conflicts with parents combined with unhealthy environments during filming in Hollywood led to a party life that quickly derailed into addiction. She was arrested for drunk driving and possession of cocaine. Was repeatedly sentenced to fines, community service and shorter prison terms. There were several rounds of rehab.

Where do you go following that? Crashed relationship with his family, no career to speak of, an addiction to continue to struggle with. Made a laughing stock before the whole world.

Mingled among the Hollywood elite

But Lindsay Lohan bounced back. Nowadays, the relationship with the parents is repaired. She is a new mother, together with her husband Bader Shammas. When she appeared at Vanity Fair’s Oscar party on Sunday, she mingled among the Hollywood elite in a silver Balenciaga. Times have changed. There seems to be a harmony in the 37-year-old’s life.

Sure, you might say that the career still hasn’t climbed out of the quagmire where it has been for many years. Lindsay Lohan has hardly ever made any good movies. If you look back 20 years, you will find one or two.

The latest effort, a romantic comedy premiering on Netflix today, is no exception. But at least a little better than the late-night Christmas film “Falling for Christmas” that she made this year.

“Irish wish” is easier to digest than a Guinness

“Irish wish” is set in Ireland, comes fittingly enough for St Patrick’s Day, and is so easily digestible that a Guinness appears to be a more moderate challenge.

The story is a silly fantasy where Lohan’s character, a publishing editor, gets the chance to change lives and marry the man of her dreams, an author whose books she more or less writes in secret. Do you think it turns out that true love is waiting elsewhere?

Still, the film is worthwhile thanks to deft Lohan charm and postcard views of the Cliffs of Moher.

That the reviews are guaranteed to be lukewarm probably doesn’t bother Lohan. It feels like she’s too stable in life for that right now. She has also talked regarding how she sees her collaboration with Netflix very positively because she wants to make more traditional romantic movies, a genre she thinks is overlooked.

Good ambition! She’d better find a better script. But sure.

There are also plans for a new “Freaky Friday”, together with (now) Oscar winner Curtis. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that it’s another step in the right direction.
