Irish Tourists Spar with YouTuber Over Prague Scooter Etiquette
A recent video by Czech YouTuber Honest Guide (janek Rubeš) has sparked discussion online after capturing a tense encounter with an Irish couple in prague.
Rubeš, known for his videos exposing tourist scams and highlighting respectful travel practices, was filming a segment about the misuse of Lime scooters in the city.In the video, he encounters a couple riding scooters on the pedestrian sidewalk, ringing their bells frequently.
rubeš politely points out that scooters should be ridden on the road, not the sidewalk, and suggests the couple’s constant bell ringing is needless.
Tourist Response
The man on the scooter responds defensively, asking “What’s your problem?” before explaining that he rings the bell “to let people know I’m around.”
Rubeš reiterates that scooters belong on the road, prompting a retort from the woman on the scooter: “Jaysus you’ve some time on your hands, go enjoy your holiday will ya?” The couple then ride away, with the man continuing to ring the bell while looking back at Rubeš.
Online Reaction
The clip, posted on Reddit’s r/ireland subreddit, ignited debate about tourist behavior and the importance of respecting local rules.
Some users defended Rubeš and emphasized the importance of following traffic rules, stating that “rules are rules, not guidelines.” Others highlighted the difference in cultural norms, suggesting that the couple might not be aware of Prague’s strict traffic regulations.
One commenter observed that “A lot of Irish people who marvel at the stunning, livable and ordered cities in Central Europe like Vienna, Prague or Zurich probably should realise that they are as such because they have rules and the locals follow them.”
The incident serves as a reminder for tourists to be mindful of local rules and customs when traveling abroad.
