From the beginning, it seems that Iris’s life was destined to coincide with the world of fashion; Her first direct connection was when she worked at Women’s Wear Daily as an assistant and part of the editorial team.

In 1948 her life would be related to the industry once more, when she married Carl Apfel, a textile businessman, with whom she would later found the fabric company: Old World Weavers. From that moment on, Iris began to be called “Lady of the Fabric” in the media.

Their talent for interior decoration made this couple responsible for decorating different spaces for more than nine presidents of the United States, such as John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton; among some other renovations of the White House.
