Today, Sunday, the Rusafa Criminal Court in Iraq issued a death sentence by hanging to death on the accused of killing security expert Hisham Al-Hashemi.
And the media center of the Supreme Judicial Council announced that “the Rusafa Criminal Court issued its death sentence once morest the criminal Ahmed Hamdawi Awaid for the murder of security expert Hisham Al-Hashemi,” and the convict can appeal this verdict, as confirmed to France Press by a judicial source who preferred not to reveal his identity.
It is noteworthy that the famous Iraqi expert, Hisham Al-Hashemi, was assassinated in June of 2020, in front of his house in the Zayouna district, east of Baghdad.
The murderer’s trial remained pending, following the Iraqi security forces arrested him on July 15, 2021, named Ahmed Hamdawi Awaid Al-Kinani, with a group of 4 people who carried out the crime.
The trial was also postponed regarding 6 times, while the accused confessed to killing Al-Hashemi, a police officer with the rank of first lieutenant, following the investigation of his crime.
He admitted in a recording broadcast on television that he had fired four or five bullets at al-Hashimi from his government pistol.
While the Iraqi authorities did not announce the party behind the assassination, they stated that Al-Kinani belonged to an outlaw party.
The killing of Al-Hashemi (47 years old), whose assassination was captured by a surveillance camera with several gunshots, at the time created a climate of intimidation and fear among Iraqi activists.
