Iraqi Border Forces Colonel Killed

The Iraqi News Agency (INA) quoted the Border Forces Command as mourning Colonel Ali Hamid Abdul-Dabi, the Lieutenant Colonel of the 10th Border Brigade in the Third Region, who was killed “as a result of a treacherous assassination carried out by criminal gangs.”

The Iraqi Border Forces Command added, in a statement, that Al-Dabi was killed while “performing his sacred duty to protect Iraq’s borders from infiltration and smuggling.”

The statement stressed that “the martyr contributed with his brothers, the heroes of the Border Forces Command, to work to confront all cases of infiltration and smuggling and prevent the entry of drugs into the country within their area of ​​responsibility.”

Earlier, Iran and Iraq agreed on Sunday to reopen border markets between the two countries in the cities of Baneh and Saqqez in Iran’s Kurdistan province.

Alsumaria website quoted the representative of the people of the city of Saqez and member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mohsen Beglarri, as saying that he met with the commander of the Iranian Border Guard, Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi, regarding reviewing the conditions of the border markets in the provinces of “Siranband, Hangezal, Ghlisor Panah, and Seif Saqez,” and he reported the Border Guard’s approval to reopen these border markets.

Bigleri stressed that reopening the border markets of these two border cities is a general demand of the residents, noting that “fortunately, the Border Guard Command has agreed to reopen the Kurdistan borders 100%.”

Last Saturday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stressed the importance of continuing coordination between Iraq and Iran at the highest levels and in all fields.
