The whole Iranian visa affair was reignited by the testimony of two Iranians, claiming that their mother was in danger following the regime’s henchmen filmed them.
In Parliament, environmentalists and socialists called on Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib (MR) to clarify this sequence by transmitting to them the information collected by the organizations in charge, including State Security.
“Circus”, “Cowardice”, “Hypocrisy”: Hadja Lahbib once more weakened in Parliament
In the corridors, some deputies recall that this demonstration during which the two Iranian brothers were filmed took place on Belgian territory. The resulting responsibility is therefore also transferred to the Minister of Justice, Vincent Van Quickenborne (Open VLD) and the Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden (CD&V).
Contacted, the offices of the two ministers did not deign to comment.
It appeared during the vote for the simple motion that the liberal camp had a strategy to weaken incriminating testimony. Deputy Tim Vandeput (Open VLD) thus brandished elements of State Security to affirm that one of the witnesses was in an illegal situation. Arrived in Belgium in 2021, PP submitted an application for international protection which was refused. In May, the Immigration Office ordered him to leave the territory. PP then submitted a second request on June 28, the day before the revelations.
For Theo Francken (N-VA), the fact that the Liberals are releasing this map shows that “the moral bar of this ‘human rights government’ is down”. The nationalist MP claims to have new elements that will once more undermine the government. The former Secretary of State, however, refused to deliver these elements to the press. A new episode of the Iranian visa soap opera might therefore be released soon.
This note from State Security that might save Hadja Lahbib’s skin: “Impossible to say what role the videos play”
