“If you make the mistake of attacking our targets, whether in the region or in Iran, we will hit you again in a way that will hurt,” warned General Salami, head of the Revolutionary Guards, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ideological army.
Iran launched on October 1 about 200 missiles at Israel, including, for the first time, hypersonic missiles.
The strikes were presented by Tehran as retaliation for the July assassination in the Iranian capital of the former head of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, Ismail Haniya, which was attributed to Israel.
Iran had also said it acted in retaliation for the killing of an Iranian general in a strike in Lebanon in late September that also killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The latter led for more than thirty years the Lebanese Islamist movement, which is supported financially and militarily by Iran.
Israel has vowed to make Iran pay the price for its attack.
Salami made this statement in Isfahan (central Iran) at the funeral of General Abbas Nilforoushan, one of the main commanders of an elite unit of the Guards, who was killed by an Israeli strike in late September in Lebanon.
In his speech, he criticized the recent delivery by the United States of the THAAD high-altitude anti-missile system to Israel, saying it did not constitute a “reliable” shield against an Iranian attack.
“Careful, we know your weaknesses, you know it. You know how vulnerable you are,” he added.
These statements were made at a time when the head of Iranian diplomacy, Abbas Araghchi, has been multiplying diplomatic consultations in recent days in an effort to calm regional tensions.
He successively visited Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq and Oman, countries that generally act as intermediaries for indirect talks with the United States.
Yesterday, Wednesday, Aragchi went to Jordan and last night he arrived in Egypt, in the first visit since 2013 by an Iranian foreign minister to that country.
