Iran says its attack on Israel was aimed at “deterrence”

Iran is trying to contain the possible consequences of its missile attack on Israel with diplomatic messages and warnings to the United States and the Jewish state, as the international community works to prevent an escalation of the conflict in the region.

The Tehran government insisted on Monday that does not seek to increase tension in the Middle East and assured that the attack against Israel was “necessary, proportionate and directed at military objectives” to create “deterrence capacity”EFE quoted.

At a press conference in the Iranian capital, Foreign Ministry spokesman Naser Kanani warned that Tehran will act “Stronger than ever to deter and punish the aggressor for any illegal and irrational action”although he has made it clear that His country adheres to the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law..

Diplomatic offensive by Arab countries

In the face of possible reactions from Western countries and calls for the imposition of new sanctions against Iran, the diplomat said that they should “appreciate moderation” of Tehran in recent months and its behavior “responsible for security and peace”.

Following the attack on Israel, Iran has launched a diplomatic offensive with talks with at least nine countries – Russia, Qatar, India, Malta, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey and the European Union – to explain its position.

Arab countries, including Iran’s neighbours, have also stepped up contacts with each other and with the United States and Tehran in recent hours to prevent the violence from getting out of control.

Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, as well as Egypt and Qatar, the latter two key mediators in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, have led a series of diplomatic contacts to that end, according to official media.
