Iran: Raisi’s funeral begins tomorrow – Five days of national mourning – 2024-07-10 08:49:46

The funeral rites for the president of Iran, Ebrahim Raishi, who was killed on Sunday (19.5.24) in a helicopter crash, will begin tomorrow Tuesday from the city of Tabriz, in the northwest, as the Iranian news agency Irna reported today, Monday.

The funeral procession for the president and the other seven officials who accompanied him on his trip will take place tomorrow morning at 9:30 (local time, 08:00 Greek time) in Tabriz.

The bodies will then be taken to Tehran, where the rites will continue, the agency said, citing Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi.

At dawn, following almost 18 hours of searches, the helicopter carrying the president of Iran was located.

Crowds of people took to the streets of Tehran and other major cities to mourn the death of the Iranian president.

“I declare five days of national mourning and express my condolences to the dear Iranian people,” noted the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei.

At the same time, he announced that First Vice President Mohammad Mohbar is acting as interim president and has 50 days to organize presidential elections, the official Iranian news agency IRNA reported.
