A high-ranking general in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has been killed in an Israeli airstrike in Syria, according to Tehran. General Sayyed Razi Mousavi was killed in an attack by the “Zionist regime” in a southern suburb of the Syrian capital Damascus, the Iranian state news agency IRNA reported on Monday. Mousavi was one of the “most experienced advisors” to the Al-Quds Brigade units in Syria, it said.
The Al-Quds Brigade is part of the branch of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard responsible for foreign operations. Iran is a close ally of the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas, whose unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7 triggered the Gaza war.
Since the start of the war once morest Hamas, Israel has intensified air strikes in Syria. Israel did not want to comment on the report on Mousavi’s death on Monday; in general, the country hardly comments on individual attacks in Syria.
