What has happened in the Djalali case over the past six years?
In April 2016 Djalali was arrested during a visit to Iran. The University of Tehran had invited him.
In December 2017 Iran’s Supreme Court upheld his death sentence.
Mid-February 2018 he was granted Swedish citizenship in his absence.
In January 2019 It was reported that he was suspected of having cancer but was denied specialist treatment despite scheduled appointments. After his arrest, he was also asked to work for the Iranian secret service in Europe if he wanted to be released. Djalali declined this offer. On November 25, 2020, the doctor was transferred to solitary confinement.
