Iran: Emir of Qatar invites Raisi to attend the Gas Exporting Countries Summit

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Iran announced, on Thursday, that Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi received an official invitation from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, to participate in the Summit of Gas Exporting Countries, during the reception of the Qatari Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Second.

The Iranian news agency “IRNA” said that the Iranian president had received the invitation during his meeting with the Qatari foreign minister, and Raisi referred to the “importance of regional cooperation,” and said that “strengthening relations and increasing synergy between neighboring countries can achieve security in the region.”

The Iranian president stressed the “importance of multilateral mechanisms in ensuring security, especially in the field of energy,” and said, “It is necessary to protect and support coordination and cooperation in the energy policies of producing countries.”

Raisi considered that “the priority of Iran’s foreign policy in the new era is to develop and deepen relations and cooperation with countries in the region and neighboring countries,” and stressed that “Tehran believes that regional cooperation is in the interest of peace, security and development for the peoples of the region and welcomes this cooperation.”

On the opportunities for cooperation between Tehran and Doha in various political, economic and cultural fields, Raisi said: “We are ready to activate all fields to develop bilateral and regional cooperation for the benefit of the two countries.”

The Qatar News Agency stated that Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani conveyed the greetings of the Emir of Qatar to the Iranian president, as well as the wishes of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, to the Iranian people to “achieve more progress and prosperity.”

The agency added that during the meeting, they “reviewed bilateral cooperation relations, developments on the regional arena and ways to maintain the region’s security and stability.”
