Reports indicate that the first suicide bomber detonated his explosive belt in the crowd, and the second attacker detonated his explosives regarding 20 minutes later. The Islamic State has repeatedly attacked Iranian civilians and security forces in recent years.

The serial bombings were the deadliest attack in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Between the explosion and the statement issued by the Islamic State, Iranian President Raisi once accused Israel of causing the explosion and warned that Israel would pay a heavy price. The Israeli military told the media that they had no comment on the incident.
