The Iranian Revolutionary Guard confirmed this Tuesday the launch of missiles against Israel in response to the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah chief Hasan Nasrallah, and an Iranian general.
“With the firing of dozens of ballistic missiles, the targets in the heart of the occupied territories have been hit,” the elite military body said in a statement.
“We warn that if the Zionist regime responds militarily to this operation it will be counterattacked in a more forceful manner,” added the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Iranian media such as the state agency IRNA published videos of images of missiles crossing the country’s skies in cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz or Tabriz, images that were repeated on social networks.
official report
State television IRIB celebrated the attack with an announcer who stated “they will take you from your homes and punish you, you Jews will be punished” while images of the attack were broadcast.
The Israeli Army announced the attack shortly before and anti-aircraft alarms sounded throughout the country.
Iran thus responds to the death of Haniyeh in Tehran during the inauguration of Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian at the end of July and the assassination of Nasrallah and Brigadier General of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Abbas Nilforushan in Israeli bombings in Beirut on Friday.
Promise
Tehran had repeatedly vowed to take revenge on Israel for Haniyeh’s death, yet had remained relatively silent about Nasrallah, leader of the Hezbollah group, one of Iran’s closest allies.
This is Iran’s first attack against Israel since April, when it attacked two Israeli air bases with missiles and drones in response to the death of seven members of the Revolutionary Guard at the Iranian consulate in Damascus, in an attack that did not cause major damage.
