Delhi: BCCI Secretary Jai Shah has confirmed that the IPL will be held in India following the announcement of general elections in the country. Shah confirmed this to the Indian Express, dismissing reports that the second leg of the IPL will be held in the UAE.

“All IPL matches will be played in India only. BCCI is planning to release the entire schedule. It will be made public soon,” BCCI Secretary Jai Shah told The Indian Express.

The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases from April 19. The BCCI faced a similar situation during the 2019 general elections, but the IPL was held in India. The schedule for the first 21 IPL matches from March 22 to April 7 was announced earlier. In a press release, Shah stated that BCCI will complete the remaining schedule of the tournament soon.

“As in the past, the BCCI will work closely with the government and security agencies, following all necessary protocols and advisories regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India. Once the dates for the 18th Lok Sabha elections are announced, the board will review and resolve any issues related to the schedule for the first two weeks. “The BCCI will work with local authorities to finalize the schedule for the rest of the season keeping in view the election dates,” Jai Shah said.

Meanwhile, the IPL teams have already started their preparations. Most of the players have started joining their respective teams. The opening match of the season will be between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Bangalore Royal Challengers on March 22 in Chennai.
