A large group of fake IPL tournament was arrested to extort lakhs through betting. The fake tournament was held in Molipur village of Mehsana district in Gujarat. It is reported that the group cheated lakhs of rupees from Russian bookies who did not know much regarding cricket. The video was broadcast live and stadium noise and commentary were artificially incorporated into the video.

Four people have been arrested by the Gujarat police in connection with the incident. Davda Shoaib Abdul Majeed, Sefi Mohammed Saqib Riazuddin, Koli Mohammed Abubakar and Dawood Saqib Abdul Majeed have been arrested, the police said. The fake tournament started three weeks following the conclusion of the IPL season. It was caught by the police when it reached the playoffs.

The fraudsters made the tournament in the name of various IPL teams by using village farmers as players. The players who played in the jersey of teams like Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans were paid Rs 400 per day. Some have also played the role of umpire. They were also rewarded. Umpires are also seen using walkie talkies.

This is a proper IPL for bettors watching the game from Russia. The setups look competitive. The match was also telecast live on YouTube through five HD cameras. Police have also received information regarding the man who lured Russian bookies. Russian bookies were connected to the tournament by Davda, who had experience working in Russian pubs.

A similar tournament was conducted by the same organizers in Uttar Pradesh. It is reported that the tournament was held in Meerut. The masterminds of the tournament are Asif Mohammad and Ashok Chaudhary. They are also behind the tournament in Gujarat. The tournament was held for the last four days under the name of Punjab Big Bash League. Some people have been arrested in the incident.
