IPL 2022 | Sanju scores a half-century; Rajasthan set a 153-run target for Kolkata

Kolkata Knight Riders set a target of 153 for victory over Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022. Batting first, Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson (54 off 49 balls) and Shimron Hetmeyer (27 * off 13 balls) put on 152 for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Tim Southee took two wickets for Kolkata.

Earlier, Rajasthan lost the toss and opted to bat. Umesh Yadav smashed a return catch to Rajasthan opener Devdutt Padikkal (2). Buttler was unable to play in the usual style and Rajasthan won the power play
Could not score significant runs. Sanju, who reached the crease following going to Padikkal, scored an easy run to give Rajasthan a better score in the powerplay.

Buttler (22 off 25 balls) was bowled by Southee shortly following the power play and Sanju took charge of the Rajasthan innings. With this, Rajasthan’s scoring dropped rapidly. Karun Nair (13 off 13 balls), who was named in the squad following the break, was unable to make a significant contribution. Sanju completed Rajasthan’s score of 100 with 40 balls to spare. But following this, Thane Shivam caught Rinku Singh off Mavi’s ball and came out. Sanju scored 54 off 49 balls, including seven fours and a six.

With Sanju out, Rajasthan’s scoring slowed down once more, but a small shot from Shimron Hetmeyer led Rajasthan to a better score. Tim Southee hit two sixes in a row in the 19th over to take Rajasthan to 150 for 20. Ashwin (six off five balls) remained unbeaten with Hetmeyer.
