A Canalys released its latest annual ranking of the best-selling smartphones (referring, of course, to the year 2023), which revealed a very tight “race” between iPhones 14 Pro Max e 15 Pro Max.
Although tight, the iPhone 14 Pro Max consolidated its leadership with impressive 34 million of units sold in 2023. Despite being launched three months later, the iPhone 15 Pro Max came close, with 33 million of units.
This, according to Canalys, was the first time that a high-end iPhone topped the ranking, suggesting strong consumer interest in more expensive models.
However, some analysts claim that the iPhone 15 line as a whole presents lower performance compared to its predecessor, due to the performance of other models. With 21 million of units sold, the iPhone 15 Profor example, failed to beat the 29 million of units sold from its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro — which came in fourth place.
The same can be seen with the iPhone 15which came in last place in the Top 10com 17 million of units sold — a much smaller number than its predecessor, the iPhone 14and even the iPhone 13which occupied third and fifth positions, respectively.
Apple’s hegemony in the ranking, however, was interrupted by Samsungwhich sold three smartphones in the Top 10: low-cost models Galaxy A14 4Gwho secured sixth place with 21 million of units sold, as well as the Galaxys A54 5G e A14 5Gwhich sold 20 million e 19 million of units, respectively.
Still, as noticed by Horace Dediufrom Asymco, the iPhone 13 surpassed sales of the South Korean giant’s best-selling model.
