“iPhones 16 Pro” may not have capacitive buttons after all

In addition to commenting on the price and production of the next iPhones, the analyst Jeff Pu revisited the long-discussed rumors about haptic feedback buttons. After much speculation, its implementation on the “iPhones 15 Pro” may have been canceled and, for Pu, the chance for the components to be used in the “iPhones 16 Pro” It is also low.

In practice, they would function similarly to the latest iPhones with a Home button — not consisting of a physical button, but solid state, with haptic feedback. According to some analysts, however, Apple faced technical problems that could not be resolved, so the traditional mechanical buttons will continue to be used in future models.

Rumors involving the buttons, regarding the “iPhones 15 Pro”, date back to the middle of the end of last year. Several speculations were being released over the months. The supplier of Cirrus Logic buttons, for example, was at one point considered the winner of the decision to use the components, later having to cut this revenue from forecasts due to the change in the direction of the winds.

Some of the advantages of adopting solid state buttons would be greater durability, greater water resistance and perhaps the inclusion of different features depending on the level of finger pressure. It is notable, however, that the novelty would require users to adapt because it offers a different experience — in addition to, as seen, imposing technical challenges for production.

As for the top-of-the-line buttons and models of the next iPhones, to be released in the coming months, the only change that can be made is the addition of an Action button. If adopted, it should replace the traditional touch/silent lever that we currently have, including being able to be capacitive, unlike the volume buttons.

Considering the new information echoed by Pu, it’s hard to know if buttons with haptic feedback will even be adopted at some point. True, there is still quite a bit of time until the release of the “iPhones 16 Pro”, so technical difficulties will be able to be overcome. However, it seems that much still needs to be done.
