A rumor that comes and goes with some recurrence is that of a new storage option for 2TB. Before the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro and 15 Pro, this speculation was considered, but as we know it ended up not coming true. The change, however, might occur with the “iPhones 16 Pro” e “16 Pro Max”according to more recent rumors.
As reflected by the leaker yeux1122 on the South Korean social network Naver, Apple will double the maximum storage capacity of the top-of-the-line models of the next iPhones, which is currently 1TB. There would, therefore, be another version of the device with 2TB, in addition to those currently existing.
This change would be a consequence of the possible adoption of NAND chips Quad-Level Cell (QLC) for the storage of upcoming iPhones. This technology allows four bits of information to be stored in a single memory cell, compared to just three in the currently used solution.
In other words, it will be possible, if this new development is confirmed, to store more data using less physical space on the device. The chips also have a lower manufacturing cost, but they can wear out more quickly and be a little slower when recording data.
With the expansion of the list of features aimed at professional users on the iPhone 15 Pro — especially those who use the device to capture videos — an option with more storage might be an important increase, especially for those who record in ProRes, which demands a lot space.
It’s worth remembering that another recent rumor covers the “iPhones 16” getting a capture button. This might be a sign of a focus on the camera that Apple may take with the next models, as the larger storage also allows for more large captures.
