We’ve already talked regarding the possibility that the “iPhones 15 Pro” have side buttons with haptic feedback instead of the traditional physical buttons. Now, new CAD renders of the devices indicate that Apple should abandon the current design with the separate volume buttons — which has lasted since the iPhone 4 — for a unified piece.
This possibility was pointed out by the YouTuber Daniel Rotar, who noticed that, in the renders, the holes for the volume buttons appear with space for only two attachment pins. Currently, Apple uses two pins to attach each of the volume buttons, making a total of four pins.
The new design, it is worth mentioning, is only present in the renders of the “iPhone 15 Pro”, and not in those of the “input” models, which continue to have the volume buttons separated and fixed by four pins. Rotar said he was “100% sure” that the Cupertino giant’s new Pro smartphones will have a single volume button on their sides.
This, however, would not be the first time that Apple has released an iPhone with a unified volume button. The company already used a very similar design that lasted from the first iPhone to the iPhone 3GS — and that was present in some of the first iPads as well.
Another button that will also undergo changes is the touch/silent, positioned just above the volume buttons. According to YouTuber, starting this year, it will be much more like the other buttons on the iPhone – that is, it will need to be pressed to work. Currently, the user needs to push the ring/silent button to turn the function on or off.
It is possible that this design change is Apple preparing to include such side buttons with haptic feedback on their smartphones. Because they are a single piece, the buttons might, for example, recognize several gestures instead of just clicks — which would certainly unlock a series of possibilities.
If that’s really the case, moving to the fixed buttons would give the iPhone even better resistance once morest water and dust. It remains unclear, however, how these buttons would work once the iPhone is placed inside a case.
So let’s wait…
