According to data from OLXthe largest marketplace in the Brazilian market, iPhone was not only the best-selling used productbut also the most searched and the most advertised of 2024 on the platform. Apple’s smartphone, it is worth remembering, had already led another survey in the first quarter of this year.
More specifically, the iPhone had a share of 34,32% in sales of second-hand products during the period covered by the balance sheet, which runs from January to October. Next, we have refrigerators (21.69%), TVs (18.07%), bicycles (13.13%), notebooks (11.62%) and sofas (1.16%).
The iPhone even more easily leads the ranking of the most searched for products, with a share of 49,87% — against 19.36% for second place (refrigerator). The story is quite similar in the list of most advertised products, with Apple’s smartphone leading the way with a share 39,08%; in this case, TVs come close behind (17.10%).
As you can see, smartphones and household items easily lead all surveys, with the same products taking turns in the top six positions — with the exception of the iPhone, of course.
Flávio Passos, vice-president of autos and consumer goods at the OLX Group, commented on the survey:
Cell phones, electronics and household products are the items that generate the most sales through the platform. And those who buy tend to get good deals: the iPhone 11, for example, the best-selling used cell phone from Apple, costs on average 18% less compared to the same new product.
The platform also tried to discover which products were most sought after by consumers during the Black Fridaywhich will officially take place this Friday (11/29). According to the data, electronics and cell phones are the preference of 62% of respondents, while 56% look for clothes and accessories and 55% keep an eye on household appliances.

## iPhone Reigns Supreme: An Interview with OLX’s Flávio Passos
**[Interviewer]:** Welcome to the show. Today, we’re discussing fascinating findings from OLX Brazil, showing the iPhone’s dominance in the used market. Joining us is Flávio Passos, Vice President of Autos and Consumer Goods at the OLX Group. Thank you for being here, Flávio.
**[Flávio Passos]:** It’s my pleasure to be here.
**[Interviewer]:** OLX’s latest data reveals that iPhones are not only the best-selling but also the most searched for and advertised used product on your platform in 2024. What do you attribute to this remarkable popularity?
**[Flávio Passos]:** We’ve seen a consistent trend of consumers seeking high-quality, reliable devices at accessible prices. The iPhone’s reputation for durability, performance, and strong resale value makes it a highly desirable option in the used market. Plus, the strong brand loyalty and aspirational aspect contribute significantly to its popularity.
**[Interviewer]:** The data shows that iPhones captured a staggering 34.32% share of used product sales, far outpacing refrigerators, TVs, and other contenders. Can you elaborate on the driving factors behind this significant lead?
**[Flávio Passos]:** The iPhone’s cycle of releases and model upgrades contributes to a steady stream of used devices entering the market. Consumers often upgrade to the latest models, making older but still desirable iPhones available for resale. This constant supply, coupled with the factors I mentioned earlier, fuels the high demand.
**[Interviewer]:** OLX also highlighted the iPhone’s dominance in searches and advertisements. What does this suggest about consumer behavior and their approach to buying used iPhones?
**[Flávio Passos]:** This highlights the level of proactiveness among consumers seeking iPhones. They actively search for specific models, compare prices, and readily post ads to find sellers. It shows the market is highly responsive and driven by knowledgeable buyers.
**[Interviewer]:** What insights can these findings provide to device manufacturers and consumers alike?
**[Flávio Passos]:** For manufacturers, it underscores the importance of designing durable, desirable devices with strong resale value. Consumers, on the other hand, gain valuable insight into the robust secondhand market for iPhones, allowing them to find quality devices at competitive prices.
**[Interviewer]:** Thank you for sharing your expertise, Flávio. These insights into the secondhand iPhone market are truly fascinating. The iPhone’s reign as the king of used goods seems secure for now.
**[Flávio Passos]:** You’re welcome. It’s been a pleasure.
