One iPhone exploded last Saturday (9/12) at a technical assistance facility in the city of Itabaianain Sergipe, just ten minutes after the owner of the device arrived at the establishment.

According to information from the 93 News, the customer was still waiting for service when flames started coming from the device. Fortunately, despite the scare, no one inside the establishment was injured, as the device was on a separate counter.

According to the iPhone’s owner, the device had come into contact with water shortly before arriving at the store — a fact that, according to the technician who attended to it, may have contributed to the explosion:

The first step after the device gets wet is to take it for assistance to deoxidize the device. All cell phone brands are subject to this risk.

The device, it is important to clarify, was not connected to the socket at the time of the explosion. If the owner had taken a few more minutes to arrive, it was possible that an explosion would have occurred with the iPhone still in his hand or in his pants pocket, which would certainly have resulted in considerable injuries.

The report does not reveal the model of the iPhone that exploded or whether the owner of the device even sought out Apple authorized assistance for help.
