Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., a Taiwanese company known for contract manufacturing of Apple’s iPhone smartphones, has announced that it will cooperate with Chinese authorities’ investigation. The details of the investigation were not specified. Some sources previously reported that authorities were conducting tax audits and land-use scrutiny of parent company Foxconn Technology Group.

The Chinese Communist Party-affiliated newspaper Global Times reported on the 22nd that tax authorities are investigating Foxconn affiliates in Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces. The report was cited by multiple people with knowledge of the situation. The Global Times also reports that natural resource authorities are scrutinizing Foxconn’s land use in Henan and Hubei provinces.

The Global Times did not provide further details regarding the tax audit. Hon Hai also did not provide a detailed explanation in its filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange. Foxconn’s factory in Zhengzhou, Henan province is known as “iPhone City.”

Terry Gou, Hon Hai’s founder and billionaire, resigned from the company’s board in September to step up his campaign for Taiwan’s presidential election.
