iPhone: 7 features we would like to see on the next version

With WWDC 2023 less than two months away, rumors regarding iOS 17, Apple’s next generation of iOS, are on the rise. Here are the 7 new features that we would like to see land with iOS 17.

iOS 17 should not be a major update, but notable improvements are in preparation? We think in particular of:

  • a redesign of the control center to make it more customizable,
  • greater functionality for the Dynamic Island,
  • performance improvements,
  • more interactive widgets,
  • better research,
  • new App Stores,
  • and icing on the cake, a complete overhaul of CarPlay.

Let’s go through the 7 features we would like to see in the next version of iOS 17.

A redesign of the control center

The redesign of the control center might allow users to select what is displayed with more granularity and choose where controls are located for a streamlined interface tailored to everyone’s needs. In addition to the customization change, a design change is also welcome.

A more functional Dynamic Island

Apple introduced the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, and it should be available on all iPhone 15 models. Although the Dynamic Island can display information such as timers, sports scores and alerts , Apple reportedly intends to add more features to the Dynamic Island to make it more useful. One thinks in particular of the integration of Siri in the Dynamic Island.

Improved performance

We want an iOS 17 update focused on fixing bugs and improving performance. Apple will focus on long-term support for older devices, which suggests iOS 17 will be a bug-free update even on older iPhones.

New Widgets

Interactive widgets are also being tested for the iPhone home screen. Active widgets are more interactive and might include one-touch buttons, sliders, and more, making the widgets more dynamic. We like the idea.

Better research

We would like a significant improvement to search within apps and via Spotlight in iOS 17. Currently we have no specific information, but we would like Apple to streamline search results, localize text in photos and videos and allows users to search for specific subjects in images.

New App Stores

This new feature should only target iPhone users within the EU. Indeed, following the requirements of the European Union, the Cupertino company should authorize alternative application stores. European customers might therefore access applications outside the App Store.

And finally: a redesign of CarPlay

At WWDC 2022, Apple introduced a next-generation version of CarPlay which is expected to be implemented in 2023. It includes support for multiple screens in a vehicle, so the CarPlay experience can be implemented on the infotainment system, instrument cluster, etc. Instrument cluster integration is a new feature that will give CarPlay more control over vehicle functions, and it will integrate with the speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, and more.

Control Center redesign, expanded Dynamic Island functionality, more interactive active widgets, better search and improved in-app search are all reasons for iPhone users to rejoice in the arrival of the next version of iOS. At least that’s what we want.
